terms with what i am only now realizing was a religious upbringing. that could mean a lot of things, and i think most of the time someone says that it connotes a conservative, traditional upbringing. but mine was not, as i was raised unitarian universalist.

UUA churches cannot possibly account for that number - you're talking about 200,000 UU adherents in the US, versus millions of white Democrats. Admittedly, every white person in my immediate family who openly identifies as a Democrat is in fact a Unitarian Universalist.
