The Rev. Horan, who has served as Organizing Strategy Director at the UUA since 2019, was appointed by the UUA Board of Trustees to this role at their January meeting on the recommendation from UUA President Rev. Sofía Betancourt, PhD.

It was not until 2015 that we as Unitarian Universalists formally acknowledged and committed to following the leadership and experience of communities of color in this work. In our 2015 UUA Statement of Conscience, we honor these leaders and commit to supporting the liberation of people of all genders, sexual orientations, abilities, gender identities, ages, classes, and cultural and racial identities.

The Unitarian Universalist Association is aware of the shooting of three Palestinian American students this past weekend in Burlington, Vermont. Our hearts and prayers are with the three students, their families, and their communities as they go through the healing and recovery process.

We are also aware of media reports that the suspect in custody identified himself as a Unitarian Universalist and it is our understanding that he is not a current member of any UU congregation. While law enforcement authorities have not yet identified a motive, we condemn his action, which is in direct opposition to the principles and values of Unitarian Universalism.

We have seen the reports that authorities are investigating the incident as a potential hate crime. And we are all too aware that both Islamophobia and antisemitism are increasing in the United States. We will continue to show up unequivocally in faithful public witness against such hate. We deeply believe that siding with love will bring both justice and peace to so many who have suffered from oppression and injustice – and we will continue to work towards a Beloved Community that welcomes all who share our values.

Sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Association and hosted by Muslim and Jewish UU professionals, this session features experts sharing about UU engagement on these issues over the past 40 years, reflecting on the many-layered history of the region, exploring the complexities of Islamophobia and antisemitism, and faithful responses to the ongoing violence. In this time of collective fear and grief, let us form a community willing to learn, struggle, and heal together.

Since 1970, Indigenous people and their allies have gathered at noon EST on Cole's Hill in Plymouth, MA to commemorate a #NationalDayOfMourning on the US #Thanksgiving holiday. It is a day to mourn, but also a time to feel strength in action and embrace truth-telling about American history and culture.

We are grateful to the United American Indians of New England - UAINE #3# for organizing this important event and offering a livestream for those who cannot be in Plymouth in person. We encourage UUs to join in solidarity from wherever you are.
