I guess what I’m saying is - if your self care practice is singing. Then that is spiritual. I bake for my self care, I find it connects me & ground me, that too is spiritual.
I don’t know how to do self care without spirituality. Everyone defines spirituality differently but self care is holy work - even if you are an atheist
For some of the people of color we work w/ they don’t connect with religion or spiritual practice so what would it look like to have care space that doesn’t center spiritual connection. Or care spaces that are multifaceted and care for the needs of spiritual & nonspiritual folk?
That makes sense - I guess what is top of mind for me right now is what does that work look like outside of spirituality. And perhaps I’m just not using Twitter characters well enough to communicate why I’m thinking about this in this way.
B/c BLUU is a faith org their approach to self care involves spirituality - the counsel is specific to the heaviness of organizing for Black Liberation vs being just general care. And all the ministers are organizers themselves.
Would you consider that spiritual practice or does it play out differently than I might assume in it being led by pastors? I guess I’m wondering does that practice connect with folks who may not be spiritual?
Yes for sure I have. In fact I don’t a Black Liberation org that doesn’t include self care as part of its praxis & structure. A quick example is @BlackLivesUU - the team meets 1X a week and devotes one of those meetings a month to pastoral care w/ a rotating trio of BW ministers
