The dangerous rise of white supremacy was on full display as men with tiki torches marched on the University of Virginia's campus the night of August 11 and clashed with counter-protestors on August 12, 2017.
We remain so proud of the Unitarian Universalist clergy and lay people who were on the side of love and provided courageous witness on that day. Today's somber anniversary reminds us the stain of white supremacy is still part of our society. We must all find the moral courage to speak out against the white nationalist rhetoric that fuels ongoing hate crimes.
The UUA remains steadfast in its commitment to anti-racism. We are hopeful that the Beloved Community can be built here in the US but we know that is only possible through the hard work of listening to and organizing in solidarity with those most impacted by systemic racism.
