'DEAR AMERICA' - A sermon by Rev. Barbara Prose (Traditional Service) - All Souls Unitarian Church

11 November 2018 at 16:00
The sermon was delivered on Sunday, November 11, 2018, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Barbara Prose, Executive Director of Ministry. DESCRIPTION If you could write a letter to America, what would you say? As I write this, the election looms ahead of us. When we gather on Sunday, November 11, the election will be behind us. One hundred years after Armistice Day, which ended World War I—“the war to end all wars”—Marlin and I will share our concerns for and our faith and the people of this country. One hundred and sixty years ago Abraham Lincoln said, “If we could first know where we are, and whither we are tending, we could then better judge what to do, and how to do it,” in his speech, A House Divided. On Sunday, we will honor our veterans, our history and the power of a people filled and fueled by our free-faith. 'REVERENCE FOR LIFE' - A message by Dr. Lachlan Forrow (Humanist Service) - All Souls Unitarian Church

4 November 2018 at 17:30
The message was delivered on Sunday, November 4, 2018, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Dr. Lachlan Forrow, Guest Speaker, at the Humanist Service. DESCRIPTION Medical doctor, philosopher, musician, and scholar Albert Schweitzer won the Nobel Peace Prize for his ethical philosophy known as Reverence for Life in 1952. It was his historical and ethical interpretation of Christianity that first led him on a search for a universal concept of ethics. He concluded that ethics was synonymous with reverence for life: "Reverence for Life affords me my fundamental principle of morality, namely, that good consists in maintaining, assisting and enhancing life, and to destroy, to harm or to hinder life is evil." Today, the Albert Schweitzer Fellowship's vision is to create a global corporation of leaders who promote positive change with and in our communities, our health and human service systems, and our world. Please join us to welcome special guest, Dr. Farrow as he carries on Dr. Schweitzer’s philosophy in our times.  SUBSCRIBE TO AUDIO PODCAST: http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/all-souls-unitarian-church/id193096943 SUBSCRIBE TO OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=allsoulsunitarian GIVE A DONATION TO HELP US SPREAD THIS LOVE BEYOND BELIEF: http://www.allsoulschurch.org/GIVE or text LOVEBB to 73256 LET'S CONNECT: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/allsoulstulsa Twitter: https://twitter.com/AllSoulsTulsa All Souls Church Website: http://www.allsoulschurch.org

'WON'T YOU BE MY NEIGHBOR?' - A message by Rev. Barbara Prose (Humanist Service) - All Souls Unitarian Church

28 October 2018 at 16:30
The message was delivered on Sunday, October 28, 2018, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Barbara Prose, Executive Director of Ministry, at the Humanist Service. DESCRIPTION In this age of uncivility, we’ll hear from a master of civility and love, Mr. Rogers, who said, “I know how tough it is some days, to look with confidence at the months and years ahead.” Some say he is part of the past. But after the Ariana Grande concert terrorist attack in England in 2017, a Mr. Rogers video went viral. In it he quotes his mother’s advice, “Always look for the helpers. 'THE PHENOMENON OF UNITY' - A sermon by Carlton D. Pearson (Contemporary Service) - All Souls Unitarian Church

28 October 2018 at 16:30
The sermon was delivered on Sunday, October 28, 2018, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Carlton D. Pearson, Affiliate Minister. DESCRIPTION The United States is less united today than we’ve been experientially in decades, if not centuries. And we hurt and are even angry because we miss being united, being one. However, we're not a melting pot, we're a stew, with each part of us maintaining its individuality while intentionally harmonizing and celebrating our differences and valuing the strength of our emotional, racial and political diversity—intentionally, syncopating and synchronizing our collective drumbeats. 'HOW WE CONNECT' - A sermon by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar (Traditional Service) - All Souls Unitarian Church

28 October 2018 at 15:00
The sermon was delivered on Sunday, October 28, 2018, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar, Senior Minister. DESCRIPTION I recently heard a story about a Tibetan choir comprised of Buddhist monks. These were all very small men, who wear simple saffron robes and sandals. They appear soft spoken, with shaved heads and bring the scent of sandalwood emanating from the carved beads worn around their necks and wrists. They were coming to chant and sing and have a meal at a maximum security prison here in the US. There was some concerns, on all sides, about whether these mild mannered monks would be able to forge a meaningful connection with the much larger, muscle-bound and diverse population of prisoners. The encounter is instructive for us all regarding how we connect with people who may be very different from ourselves. Welcoming Every Generation - West Shore Unitarian Universalist Church

21 October 2018 at 15:21

by Reverend Patricia Hart

Layne Richard-Hammock

Director of Lifespan Faith Development

Dana Morgan

Worship Associate

West Shore has made a commitment to be a “multi-generational” community: a place where persons of all ages are not only welcome but where opportunities abound for those of different generations to interact and learn from one another. Some reflection and history about child dedications, and a celebration of legacy gifts from several elders who have gone before us.

The sermon was delivered on Sunday, October 21, 2018, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Barbara Prose, featuring pilgrimage stories by Rachel Mize, Elizabeth Arnett, and Carla Clark. DESCRIPTION In June, a group of All Souls members and friends met in Madrid, Spain, to walk the ancient pilgrimage route, Camino de Santiago. Like all pilgrims before us, we came with hopes and regrets, concerns and expectations. Without exception, we were surprised and changed by our experiences. Come hear our stories, see our photos, and consider how you will walk forward in your own life. 'WHY LIBERALS LOSE' - A sermon by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar (Humanist Service) - All Souls Unitarian Church

14 October 2018 at 16:30
The sermon was delivered on Sunday, October 14, 2018, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar, Senior Minister, at the Humanist Service. DESCRIPTION At the heart of American democracy is... (wait for it...) “heart!” One of America’s foremost 21st century liberal theologians, Dr. Rev. Thandeka, teaches that when liberal religion displaces emotion from the moral equation, a contradiction of moral reasoning diminishes the impact of the liberal voice in American public life. Mainstream churches and liberal politicians will continue to lose ground unless this contradiction is reconciled. The most well-reasoned, documented and articulated facts, figures and solutions will continue to fail to move people to change. Thandeka says, “Liberal moral reasoning does not parse the American heart.” At All Souls, reconciliation is at the heart of our work. Join me to explore solutions we strive to achieve in our liberal religious faith.   SUBSCRIBE TO AUDIO PODCAST: http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/all-souls-unitarian-church/id193096943 SUBSCRIBE TO OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=allsoulsunitarian GIVE A DONATION TO HELP US SPREAD THIS LOVE BEYOND BELIEF: http://www.allsoulschurch.org/GIVE or text LOVEBB to 73256 LET'S CONNECT: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/allsoulstulsa Twitter: https://twitter.com/AllSoulsTulsa All Souls Church Website: http://www.allsoulschurch.org

'MAY WE BE ONE' - A sermon by Carlton D. Pearson (Contemporary Service) - All Souls Unitarian Church

14 October 2018 at 16:30
The sermon was delivered on Sunday, October 14, 2018, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Carlton D. Pearson, Affiliate Minister. DESCRIPTION William Cowper, the son of a minister, and 18th century poet, hymnodist wrote the phrase: “Variety's the very spice of life, that gives it all its flavor.” A friend and mentee of John Newton, who wrote Amazing Grace, was an abolitionist and seems to have understood while living in England, the beauty of diversity and human community. A community is a small or large social unit that has something in common—norms, religion, values, or identity. The word itself is a combination of the two words; common and unity. Communion is likewise, common and union. Jesus prayed, "That they may be one." We pray "that we may be one." Our vision here at ALL Souls is to be both a physical and spiritual example of unity, diversity, a rainbow of colors, flavors and love beyond belief. Join us all month while we present and re-present this unique trait, trend, and target of our church community! You Never Know (10-08-18 Sermon) - White Bear Unitarian Universalist Church (WBUUC) Sermons

11 October 2018 at 17:13
There’s no evidence that’s true; there’s no evidence it isn’t. You never know. To me, faith is right relation to unknowing and to mystery. It’s not the opposite of doubt; it’s the soulmate of doubt. Without doubt, you really don’t need faith. The opposite of doubt is arrogance, and ignorance. Bravado. Hubris. Swagger. -Rev. Victoria […]

'OUR NATION OF BABBLE' - A sermon by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar (Contemporary Service) - All Souls Unitarian Church

7 October 2018 at 16:30
The sermon was delivered on Sunday, October 7, 2018, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar, Senior Minister. DESCRIPTION In the Pledge of Allegiance we say “...one nation, under God, indivisible...”. Yet, America seems very divided. As we begin our October theme of “Unity and Diversity,” the worship team and I are working to create services that aim to unify in love what is divided by politics, prejudices, and preferences. This year’s Children and Youth Choirs will make their debut performances and our children will begin our Traditional service in the sanctuary with a special message for them on our month’s theme.
