Love's Sanctuary - First Unitarian Universalist Church of Austin

15 October 2018 at 16:32
Assistant Minister Rev. Chris Jimmerson's sermon delivered on October 14, 2018. We have talked about the ancient history of offering sanctuary as we have with Sulma and Alirio. In the broader context, we all need sanctuary, a respite, a sacred place to get re-centered. We will discuss what it means to be a people of sanctuary.

'WHY LIBERALS LOSE' - A sermon by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar (Humanist Service) - All Souls Unitarian Church

14 October 2018 at 16:30
The sermon was delivered on Sunday, October 14, 2018, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar, Senior Minister, at the Humanist Service. DESCRIPTION At the heart of American democracy is... (wait for it...) “heart!” One of America’s foremost 21st century liberal theologians, Dr. Rev. Thandeka, teaches that when liberal religion displaces emotion from the moral equation, a contradiction of moral reasoning diminishes the impact of the liberal voice in American public life. Mainstream churches and liberal politicians will continue to lose ground unless this contradiction is reconciled. The most well-reasoned, documented and articulated facts, figures and solutions will continue to fail to move people to change. Thandeka says, “Liberal moral reasoning does not parse the American heart.” At All Souls, reconciliation is at the heart of our work. Join me to explore solutions we strive to achieve in our liberal religious faith.   SUBSCRIBE TO AUDIO PODCAST: http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/all-souls-unitarian-church/id193096943 SUBSCRIBE TO OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=allsoulsunitarian GIVE A DONATION TO HELP US SPREAD THIS LOVE BEYOND BELIEF: http://www.allsoulschurch.org/GIVE or text LOVEBB to 73256 LET'S CONNECT: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/allsoulstulsa Twitter: https://twitter.com/AllSoulsTulsa All Souls Church Website: http://www.allsoulschurch.org

'MAY WE BE ONE' - A sermon by Carlton D. Pearson (Contemporary Service) - All Souls Unitarian Church

14 October 2018 at 16:30
The sermon was delivered on Sunday, October 14, 2018, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Carlton D. Pearson, Affiliate Minister. DESCRIPTION William Cowper, the son of a minister, and 18th century poet, hymnodist wrote the phrase: “Variety's the very spice of life, that gives it all its flavor.” A friend and mentee of John Newton, who wrote Amazing Grace, was an abolitionist and seems to have understood while living in England, the beauty of diversity and human community. A community is a small or large social unit that has something in common—norms, religion, values, or identity. The word itself is a combination of the two words; common and unity. Communion is likewise, common and union. Jesus prayed, "That they may be one." We pray "that we may be one." Our vision here at ALL Souls is to be both a physical and spiritual example of unity, diversity, a rainbow of colors, flavors and love beyond belief. Join us all month while we present and re-present this unique trait, trend, and target of our church community! by Reverend Peter Newport and

Marty Blachly-Cross

Loss of identity, not knowing who you are, is part of white supremacy culture—for white people, anyway. A personal look, this morning, from where one white person came from; some of the confusions that arose along the way; and the story of John Wampus.

You Never Know (10-08-18 Sermon) - White Bear Unitarian Universalist Church (WBUUC) Sermons

11 October 2018 at 17:13
There’s no evidence that’s true; there’s no evidence it isn’t. You never know. To me, faith is right relation to unknowing and to mystery. It’s not the opposite of doubt; it’s the soulmate of doubt. Without doubt, you really don’t need faith. The opposite of doubt is arrogance, and ignorance. Bravado. Hubris. Swagger. -Rev. Victoria […]

'OUR NATION OF BABBLE' - A sermon by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar (Contemporary Service) - All Souls Unitarian Church

7 October 2018 at 16:30
The sermon was delivered on Sunday, October 7, 2018, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar, Senior Minister. DESCRIPTION In the Pledge of Allegiance we say “...one nation, under God, indivisible...”. Yet, America seems very divided. As we begin our October theme of “Unity and Diversity,” the worship team and I are working to create services that aim to unify in love what is divided by politics, prejudices, and preferences. This year’s Children and Youth Choirs will make their debut performances and our children will begin our Traditional service in the sanctuary with a special message for them on our month’s theme. A Covenantal Faith - West Shore Unitarian Universalist Church

23 September 2018 at 16:43

by Reverend Patricia Hart and

Marty Blachly-Cross

Worship Associate

In Unitarian Universalism, everything important is rooted in the covenant that members make with one another. Everyone is free to believe and practice their own faith—but even in that freedom, there is the mutual commitment to a vision and way of being together. (How does that work?)

'IS THERE MORE?' - A reflection by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar (Humanist Service) - All Souls Unitarian Church

23 September 2018 at 16:30
The reflection was delivered on Sunday, September 23, 2018, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar, Senior Minister, at the Humanist Service. DESCRIPTION The insatiable human desire for more often gets portrayed as a negative characteristic that leads to excess. What if its origin is a deep knowing that there is more to our lives then we often perceive or actualize? Do you feel the tug for more of something in your life? Perhaps it is the most important message you are avoiding. As we continue on the theme of “calling” I will be exploring the positive possibilities of our yearnings for more. The idea for this message came from a conversation with Ryan and Sarah Darby who won the prize of choosing a sermon topic and a song in last year’s Love and Light Gala. The song they chose is titled “More” from the band Phish. Rick Fortner has been working on a special version of the song for the services this Sunday.    SUBSCRIBE TO AUDIO PODCAST: http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/all-souls-unitarian-church/id193096943 SUBSCRIBE TO OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=allsoulsunitarian GIVE A DONATION TO HELP US SPREAD THIS LOVE BEYOND BELIEF: http://www.allsoulschurch.org/GIVE or text LOVEBB to 73256 LET'S CONNECT: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/allsoulstulsa Twitter: https://twitter.com/AllSoulsTulsa All Souls Church Website: http://www.allsoulschurch.org

16 September 2018 at 19:48

by Reverend Patricia Hart and

Layne Richard-Hammock

Director of Lifespan Faith Development

In this creedless faith, we need to know what lessons we can teach our children that might serve as their moral or spiritual grounding in life. How does teaching others help us learn about ourselves? Everyone is invited to help launch a new year of Religious Education for children, youth, and teachers.

'ANOTHER GATHERING PLACE' - A sermon by Carlton D. Pearson - All Souls Unitarian Church

9 September 2018 at 16:30
The sermon was delivered on Sunday, September 9, 2018, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Carlton D. Pearson, Affiliate Minister. DESCRIPTION Where are the places that gather people in meaningful ways? There’s a big difference between being in other people’s company and encountering people in ways that change us all. This weekend is both All Souls annual Homecoming Sunday and the opening of Tulsa’s new $460,000,000 “Gathering Place” park. All Souls is a gathering place for people of various backgrounds and beliefs. If you’ve taken the summer off this is the day to return to All Souls. If you haven’t seen someone at church for a while, please reach out and invite them to come. The choirs have some wonderful music planned and our youth group will be serving fajitas for lunch as a fundraiser. We will have tables on the lawn and in Emerson Hall to gather and eat. Come to a service and then perhaps head to checkout the new park afterward. *Musical solo by Majeste Pearson. 'YOUR VOICE AND CALLING' - A sermon by Carlton D. Pearson - All Souls Unitarian Church

2 September 2018 at 16:30
The sermon was delivered on Sunday, September 2, 2018, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Carlton D. Pearson, Affiliate Minister. DESCRIPTION “Your profession is not what brings home your weekly paycheck, your profession is what you're put here on earth to do, with such passion and such intensity that it becomes spiritual in calling.” ―Vincent van Gogh There is a tense, intense and intended inner tug in the soul, that is so irresistible, that no spiritually alive person can ignore. This tug is both magnified and amplified—an urgent demand of the soul and on the life. The volume of this summons becomes the very signature of your soul, the spiritual acoustics that add divine resonance. This calling is the interior decoration of your soul and the external architect of your life. It is the nature and nurture of the Self and substance of your innate realities and proclivities. There are patents of the soul, whose copyrights you own and must honor. These patents and patterns invite the official vocations, and the only honest ovations, that your spirit recognizes and relates to. All others are superficial. Vocation is a strong feeling of suitability for a particular career, occupation or personal objective. It derives from the from Latin word 'vocare', which means ‘to call, call out, or call out to'. The late Howard Thurman said, "Don't ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive and go do it. What the world needs, is people who have come alive." Join your All Souls community in September for thematic messages on 'Vocation and Calling' that will inspire and encourage you to recognize the voice and choice inside you and our spiritual community's purpose, calling and vocation here in the city of Tulsa and around the world!
