When Unitarian Universalists come together - whether in person or online - we make a powerful impact. Each year, our annual General Assembly gives us an opportunity to amplify our experience in worship, grow our personal and professional networks, and share our love for one another and for this faith in deeply meaningful ways.

Another GA has come and gone. Last week we concluded our multi-platform General Assembly. Enjoy these photos from various events during GA.

Unitarian Universalists elect first woman of color, openly queer president

Appreciative of this Religion News Service coverage of our historic election at General Assembly:

"A womanist theologian, ethicist and minister was installed as the tenth president of the Unitarian Universalist Association Sunday afternoon (June 25), following an uncontested election in which she secured 95.5% of the vote. She is both the first openly queer person and first woman of color to lead the faith tradition, and will serve a six-year term. As her tenure begins, Betancourt has named her top three priorities as communal care, collaborative leadership and facing the unknown together. She has also been clear that she views Unitarian Universalism as a living tradition that must creatively respond to the needs of today." https://bit.ly/46ogOr2

The UUA Applauds Supreme Court Ruling Upholding the Indian Child Welfare Act

Read the official UUA statement applauding the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in the Haaland vs Brackeen case that upholds the constitutionality of the Indian Child Welfare Act.

Our President Rev. Susan Frederick-Gray reminds us that β€œUU's have long supported the efforts by Native and Indigenous peoples to maintain their culture and sovereignty, and we continue to do so today,” β€œICWA has been successful in helping to prevent the further erosion of the culture of Indigenous communities. We celebrate this ruling, which preserves this important piece of legislation.”

The Supreme Court’s ruling helps preserve the sovereignty of Indigenous tribes and the rights of Native American children and their families.

Religious Educators Lead a Return to Community

UU religious educators are searching for the kind of community events and outreach that will stitch unraveled connections back together and offer families the spiritual support they need to navigate post-shutdown life.

Dayna Edwards, minister of faith formation at Cedar Lane Unitarian Universalist Church in Bethesda, MD has found it effective to lean into community events that were canceled or pared down in recent years, like Cedar Lane’s annual holiday craft day.

Correna Ness, director of religious exploration at the Unitarian Church of Harrisburg, PA worked together with congregants to restructure popular events like an annual auction to make them more multigenerational and financially accessible to all.

We are so grateful for all that lay and credentialed religious educators do to guide and serve our Unitarian Universalist communities.

As President Rev. Susan Frederick-Gray's term winds down, we are sharing this heartfelt video of Presidents Susan’s husband and son called "The Most Biased Endorsement," from when she was running for UUA President back in 2017.

On this 2nd anniversary we lift up and honor the beautiful humanity of George Floyd and the dignity of his life. Our Unitarian Universalist faith compels us to speak the names of George Floyd in remembrance of his life and recognize every Black person who has been harassed, assaulted, or murdered by police.

We must continue to work in solidarity with the Black leaders and organizers who have long been fighting for justice. #justiceforgeorgefloyd #blacklivesmatter #RestInPowerGeorgeFloyd

As my time as your UUA President winds down, I wanted to share a message reflecting on some of the things I am most proud of and things that have been most challenging during my tenure. I also want to offer my thoughts on and enthusiasm for what is ahead for the UUA in this leadership transition.

I am honored to have served in this role for these last six years and grateful for how UUs have been courageous and bold in these truly challenging and important times.

If I’m not cultivating an open heart and watching for the helpers, the teachers, and the angels, I may miss them when I need them the most.

Join me for this great event!

Imagine it's 2050 and we've achieved all of our wildest hopes for climate justice...what does it look like? The abolitionist movement imagines a future without police and prisons, drawing on deep convictions, faith, imagination, and hope to do so. The climate justice movement is diverse, vibrant, and equally hopeful: but do we UUs have a vision of what a just climate future is?

Join Side with Love for this radical gathering of thinkers for abolitionist visions of climate justice. Facilitated by Rachel Myslivy, Rev. Dr. SofΓa Betancourt, Dr. Rashid Shaikh, and Antoinette Scully.

To aid with the visioning, this event will incorporate the use of 'rich picture' process to help us imagine our communities in this future. We hope this panel will inspire and ground all of us in the promise of the world we yearn for. Register here:https://bit.ly/3ojfFzw
