We are holding the victims, their families, and all of Highland Park, Illinois in love and light during this heartbreaking time. We are lifting up those who lost friends, family members, and neighbors, and their community, who will live with the consequences of yesterdayโs mass shooting forever in their lives and in their hearts. The horrendous toll of this gun violence during a holiday parade is beyond comprehension. As we pray for the victims and their families โ and provide support and comfort to their community โ we continue to demand action on reasonable gun safety regulations, even while acknowledging the recent passage of new federal gun safety laws.
There have now been more than 300 mass shootings in this country in less than 200 days. A recent decision by the Supreme Court has made it even more difficult for states to pass reasonable gun regulations. We cannot accept living under these conditions of mass violence, especially actions inspired by harmful ideologies.
Our hearts heavy with grief, we offer words of support: You are not alone. Together, we are strong. Together, we will make change.
